UCT's Disability Policy is its reasonable accommodation policy for people with disabilities. It acknowledges the university’s commitment to redressing past and present inequalities for persons with disabilities. UCT’s support for students and staff with disabilities involves a range of services: e.g., sign-language interpretation, note-takers, assistive technologies, adapted transportation, accessible housing/residences and exam accommodations.

UCT has mobilised external donor funding to support these services. For example:

  • The programme “Access4ALL” (developed in 2024 and launched in 2025) - supported by the FirstRand Foundation and other partners, with UCT leading - helps infrastructural and capacity‐building work around disability at UCT and other institutions.

UCT’s funding for disability-policy implementation is a hybrid model combining:

  • Internal institutional budget/resourcing (e.g., UCT “set aside” funds, the Disability Service being part of the institution)
  • External donor/grant funding (e.g., FirstRand Foundation)
  • Project‐based/partnership funding (e.g., Access4ALL capacity‐building, infrastructure audits)
  • Annual funding for accommodations & specialised services
  • Infrastructure spending (building renovations, universal access audits) which ties into the capital infrastructure budget of the university and into specific construction/maintenance funds.
